I don't think anyone is shocked at anything Cherry said, I am shocked anyone would try and defend it frankly, or even object to a wholly irrelevant figure who has been out of touch with hockey, let alone the real world for a decade or more, being fired for saying something on air in his job as a hockey commentator about his wholly spurious belief that immigrants that don't wear a poppy are ungrateful to Canada or perhaps he meant anyone not wearing a poppy must be an immigrant seriously it was an insane rambling rant, vast numbers of people don't wear poppies, it has nothing to do with where they came from it was both offensive and untrue, two things that will get you canned in any job.
