Buying a poppy is an easy way to do that.

These statements are all on brand for him.

His family immigrated, assimilated, fought for the country. He has always been pro Canada and pro veterans

People are spending so much time inferring and interpreting, getting outraged about the results of their own inference

People could spend time as well to consider his intent and not clumsy execution

He did not spell out to whom he took exception. Based on his words, he did not spell out taking exception to all immigrants in general, but he did appear to take exception to people that he perceives don’t support veterans

You keep talking about assimilation. The whole idea that people who have abided by the customs and laws to get into this country should be more like you, and value the same things you value, or be deemed unappreciative IS a racist concept. It assumes your way is the right way and the better way.

Many immigrants do not understand remberance day and many that come here are poor and typically aren't in the position to donate no matter how little money it is. Do you have to buy a poppy to be appreciative of soldiers? There are plenty of things to donate to such as cancer, abused women, drug addiction etc. Where do you draw the line? Is someone who wears a poppy more or less Canadian then someone who donated to children's hospital? If you don't donate to kids sport at the grocery store do you then hate children?

The fact is that he is looking at a subset of "you people" who since 1970 are largely a visible minorities and claiming them to be ungrateful and less Canadian. Fight over semantics all you want but what he said was stupid and wrong.

Like I said previously. I like him I hope he keeps his job but he deserves all the flack he gets over this. People who are not racist I'm their everyday life can do racist things.
