So here is a nice little wrinkle that a customer observed today at work. We are a big hockey family so we always have the TV on and the games playing etc. We aren't a bar or anything but a lot of regulars are always chirping about their teams and everybody is chirping each other.

The Sportsnet apology comes up and everybody is discussing it in details etc and than the CTV National news comes on and its the first story. Big headlines!

Anyhow everybody is putting their two cents in and it's amazing how the interactions all were. Immigrants and new Canadains agreeing with Cherry, generational Canadians thinking he's a loose cannon and needs to be fired, replaced and sent to the moon for the rest of his days. All the opinions flowing loud just like on this form.

One guy's reading the headlines on the Calgary Herald's app about poppy box thefts and he chimes in with the

" Immigrants may or may not be buying sufficient poppies to suit Don Cherry or others but I will tell ya, 9 out of 10 times the poppy boxes are being jacked by all the white trash losers in this city' We all had a good laugh and a discussion.

I may agree in theory on most aspects of Cherry's comments, I don't he articulated them very well at all (for 2019) and now he is getting hammered for it.

I know how badly everyone want's to see this guy's head on a platter for what he said but he has been SUCH a strong advocate for the military, police, firefighters, EMS, young children who are sick, kidney disease and organ donations and much more. He really really has done a lot of really great things with the platform he has been given as a Canadian, one of the very reasons why he is so highly rated and loved by a LOT of Canadians of all backgrounds.

I have read and heard from enough sources and even popular athletes like Bobby Orr who have the most loving things to say about him and his charitable causes. I think it was in Orr's book where he talked about how Cherry donates almost all of his salary and always hit's up Orr and other famous players for merchandise to auction off for specific causes. He also does a TON of charity work quietly from what I have heard.

Bobby Orr, someone who is as well respected in the game as anybody called it a travesty that Grapes isn't in the Hall of Fame as a builder. He has talked about how much he has done for the game and for the sport and youth organizations that it should have been done.

I really hope that this firestorm doesn't prevent that from happening while he is still alive. Like a lot of emotional people, his heart was in the right place for the right cause but Cherry being Cherry and 2019 outrage culture being what it is today, everything get's worked up and people are talking about EVERYTHING except supporting veterans or the poppy fund.
