Don's comments were stupid, and he deserves the criticism. I don't even disagree that people (all people) could do a much better job understand and paying respects to the sacrifices of military personnel. That would be solid point, if he made it. Instead he took the cheap, inaccurate and holier than thou strategy by wagging his finger at and generalizing about people that are new to the country. Dumb comment.
Don't even get me started about how thinking you are some supreme patriot by putting a plastic flower on your lapel, but someone who uprooted their entire family and way of life to be here yet somehow forgot to get (or lost) that same plastic flower somehow cares less about the country. Don has no idea how anyone walking the streets of the country feels about being here.

Inaccurate? “... people who are new to the country..” I did not hear him address duration of presence in Canada. That seems inaccurate.
Outrage culture? Sure, I mentioned it. People threw out the word racism. The most specific thing he did was group together people who don’t wear poppies, no? You may have a case starting with the word xenophobia, based on him saying people come here. I don’t know if he said where here was.
It’s not the whole answer. But a lot of comments in here do seem to be more based on inference than information. And there is also lots of ‘holier than thou’ too.
