Also urbanites in canada: no issues voting for a guy who wears black face and sticks socks down his pants to pay homage to white trust fund baby who blamed his error on privilege

A. You don’t even know if Cherry is accurate in what he says he sees or the reasons behind it. He sees someone not wearing a poppy (and who is even checking this?) and assumes they don’t support the troops. I buy a bunch of poppies every year, contribute to the vet food bank, attend Remembrance Day services. Yet you might see me without a poppy at some point. I might have waited longer than normal, it might have fallen off, maybe its on my other jacket or covered up - point is, a false assumption has been made.
B. I see as many people in rural areas without a poopy, likely for the same reason.
C. There’s no one I meet who are more patriotic than those who choose to come here, and they know more, too. They take a test.
D. Cherry also assume people he sees are immigrants. I can only think of one feature that would cause that assumption, unless he actually stopped and asked (which I’m sure he didn’t). So that’s where the notion that it’s race based comes from.
E. Trudeau’s blackface way off base, and admitted it and apologized. You can take his apology however you want but he did it. I’ve never heard Cherry apologize for anything. Trudeau also instituted a number of immigrant/refugee policies that suggest he has beliefs that aren’t racist. So there’s that. Cherry’s statements are in line with other things in his history - generalizations about European hockey players, etc.
Those who are defending him are rolling themselves or have the same beliefs.
