Kylington has been mostly good. However, Davidson has been really good in Stockton so far, so I get why they thought it might be good to try a hot hand and upgrade the 3rd pairing. Davidson has 10 points in 10 games, and the Flames need some offense from the back end. As crafty as Kylington is, he hasn't put up many points yet. Just one assist in 14 games. If he's not creating offense he isn't a major upgrade on a lot of defensemen.
I think this is about rewarding Davidson and simultaneously getting Oliver some reps as a top d-man to get his offensive game going again.
