Personally, I'm glad Lucic went after Sherwood for sticking Rittich. That said he was definitely over zealous with a punch to the face, if you want to fight then then drop the gloves and go at it.

I like when teammates stand up for each other. Teams have been going after Rittich a little bit lately. If you do nothing teams will keep doing it. We needed more of this when teams started slashing Gaudreau away from the play a few years ago.

Let's also not pretend like Sherwood is innocent in all of this. What Lucic did was wrong, and whether it is suspension worthy is debatable, but I also felt Sherwood was running around a little bit in this game too.

Young guy who plays hard and is trying to make an impression, he's also riding a line. He had a hit on Kylington early in the first that could have been a boarding call as he got Kylington right in the numbers, but the refs miss the call and the result is Sherwood likely has a but of a target on his back. A few more big hits, albeit more clean, and then giving Rittich a stick and Lucic decides enough is enough and plays his role and steps up. I'm sure there was a little frustration in there too with the turnover, but hockey's an emotional game.

I thought there was another play where Mangiapane got hit right in the numbers and went head first into the boards and I thought that was Sherwood too, but I've yet to re-watch the game so I can't be 100% on that.

Plays like this happen lots in almost every game and never warrant more than an on ice penalty, of which Lucic got 2.

I have no problems with Lucic stepping up and letting the other team know that stuff like that isn't going to fly. It's his job. He should ride the line a little better but it is what it is.

He will sit for 2 and we move on with life.

Although the outcry will be amazing when this happens in another game and the NHL doesn't even look at it.
