Were the Cylons created 40 years ago? I thought the story was that no one heard from them for 40 years before they attacked Earth; I didn't think we had been given a definite timelime for their creation.

Cylons were created by man . . . . they eventually became sentient and turned on their human masters. A war ended with an armistace 40 years ago . . . . theoretically no one had heard or seen anything of the Cylons through those 40 years, although you saw an episode in the first half of season 3 where Adama had inserted a spycraft into Cylon space which was immediately pounced upon.
The new "Caprica" series was/is ostensibly about the decisions which led to the creation of the Cylons and the point where they eventually turned on humans.
So . . . . all of that is a long way from a temple constructed 4000 years ago, which is obviously part of the mystery that is unravelling.
