There are 30 other teams that have done this. The only other team that technically didn't was Atlanta, who only existed until 2011. There's no way the Flames have had the worst save percentage situation, one that could can blame on defense quality or activation, that entire time.
You're wrong. It's extremely difficult to blame bad save percentage entirely on the defense/coaching when its over 5 coaches, 4 GMs, 9 years, about about 50 different defensemen.
Look at Robin Lehner. He has put up 92% during 6 seasons already (albeit some of those seasons have small amounts of games). Most of those seasons were behind terrible defense in Ottawa, Buffalo, and not Chicago.
Guys like him have been available too, so that's the frustrating part.

Sorry, man, I don’t know what your argument even is, so don’t know why you say I am wrong
The “worst” in your arbitrary metric of “number of seasons without a goaltender having a .920 sv% since 2012-13”? Um, ok.
Absolutely team play impacts save percentage. Many analyses have been done. Articles written.
Even look at Kipper’s numbers over his career. Above .920 with Darryl. Below .910 with Keenan. Same goalie, very different save percentages. Corresponds strongly with how one would anecdotally describe observation of the play
As the other poster mentioned, one statistically bad game in a small sample skews that sample.
Here are two things that torpedo save percentages
- 1. too many shots that are unlikely or impossible to be stopped
- 2. failing to stop shots he should stop
These things are very different, but count the exact same.
I don’t even know why you are talking about goalies now after Rittich took two consecutive games to the third period with a 1-0 lead. The tying goal yesterday was a stupid lacrosse goal that shouldn’t have been
And since 2011-12? Ok. So Hiller, Elliott and Smith were bad goalies? No argument here. All were plagued by number 2. That has nothing to do with now though.
So yeah. Sorry, I’m not sure what your point is
