Hopefully the top line can get going tonight...looking at the numbers and they just haven't been able to get to the high danger areas on the ice.

Unclear if that their own style of play, or if teams are collapsing on them in their own zone and the Flames are settling for outside shots.

If you compare some of the key possession stats.

Corsi For Per 60:

2018/2019: 61.0
2019/2020: 62.6

Corsi Against Per 60:

2018/2019: 51.7
2019/2020: 50.7

Shots For Per 60:
2018/2019: 32.6
2019/2020: 35.3

Shots Against Per 60:
2018/2019: 28.9
2019/2020: 29.3

So overall shot generation they are giving up fewer and taking more shots but then you look at high danger...

High Danger For Per 60:

2018/2019: 12.3
2019/2020: 8.9

High Danger Against Per 60:
2018/2019: 11.1
2019/2020: 9.9

There have been some issues with high danger stat reporting for the NHL so far this year but this seems to match the eye test for me. They just haven't been able to get those grade A quality chances they were able to get last year.

And then that translates to the on-ice shooting percentage:

2018/2019: 11.6%
2019/2020: 7.0%

I think they will figure it out, and the better defensive zone play is promising long term, but need to find a way to still generate high quality without leaking defensively.

Edit: High Danger chance numbers might still be broken - so need to potentially take those with a grain of salt.
