Instead we get nights like tonight where you have a section of Canada (the prairies) that will get next to no say over the next election term because the liberals will be pandering to Quebec and Ontario. The difference is the senate in the US is equal and elected and effective. Ours is a joke that is unelected and rubber stamps most everything.
I’m not up on the triple e senate so don’t have a say on it at the time. However yes the states have it right with an elected senate and yes it is very effective. Harper was aiming to do this but if memory serves - surprise surprise that the hand selected lifers in the senate blocked quite a bit of legislation, and that making the senate elected one of them. The States really does have superior system in place. They still get their issues, but at least voters have a say in all 3 areas.

The biggest complaint I would have about Harpers years was not getting conservatives in the senate but leaving empty seats for Justin to then fill making it harder for some of his legislation to be blocked. However I could be wrong about who or how many Harper picked for the senate as I did not pay much attention to it so basing it off of what I recall at the moment
