In the popliteal fossa there's an exposed artery and vein, and few nerves that are unprotected there as well. Injury to those wouldn't cause somebody to not be able to weight bear beyond the nerve pain (like a 'funny bone'). Would be rare to injury the artery or vein in that mechanism, but then again humans don't get direct hits to that area too often. Those big bones can also chip where they flare out at the knee joint, but I would also be surprised if there was any bony injury.
