I know I’ve sure stopped caring, and my life has gotten better for it. I guess that makes me not a fan, and that’s fine.
After the team started nose diving post-ASB, I was getting upset after losses. I started questioning why I devoted so much of my free time to this thing that wasn’t bringing positivity into my life, and I cut back. I started doing other things that made me happy while the team spiraled into an entirely too familiar playoff disaster.
I’ve tried watching bits and pieces of the first few games this season and those same feelings of negativity started creeping back after a whole summer off. I’m much happier not having to worry about lazy efforts, crap officiating, players not living up to their inflated contracts, etc etc, that this team seems to battle against every single year with the same results.
It was very liberating to just admit to myself that this team, for me, was no longer worth caring about. Those of you who, like me, have started becoming ambivalent or worse when it comes to following the Flames, just pick up another hobby that interests you and follow casually if you like.
Were it not for CP, I’d be completely done following hockey at all.
