It's not even to do him some favor; it's more for the team to really know what we have in him.
An extended period, and he continues to make dumb plays and take unnecessary penalties, and it'll be clear.
Just imo of course.

Come on man, this isn't his first season.
The difference between Bennett on line 2 and not was so stark last night that I'm hoping we can finally put it to bed now.
This isn't the Calgary Bennetts, it's the Calgary Flames and if Bennett can't show he belongs on that line for longer than a period then the team needs to adjust and find someone who does.
It's not as if Mangiapane is spectacular or is an obvious coach favourite. Just being adequate is enough for him to keep his spot on that line. That's all bennett needed to be as well. Just adequately use his linemates, gain the zone and maintain possession. Set up in front of the net and try to deflect a shot, don't pinch too deep so that you're unable to cover your defensive assignment. Don't take bad penalties.
Mangiapane belongs there right now because he is able to make simple reads, uses his more talented linemates effectively and has the stick skills necessary to keep up. IMO, Bennett has demonstrated for 200+ games now that he doesn't have those skills.
