Indeed. One grandma visit and it can throw the whole thing out of whack!
My advice is simply consistency and no props. Leaving out the props (soother, noisemaker, whatever else) may hurt in the short term but it'll hurt much more later on if they are used. (note: not all babies become "addicted" to props...some have a take 'em or leave 'em attitude).
