I've always thought that a good comparable for Monahan was Stamkos. Tampa Bay went to another level when they moved Stamkos from first line centre to second line centre and wing. It's not because he wan't effective as the #1, but because it gave them two effective scoring lines, and ego be damned.

Monahan and Gaudreau should be split up.
