Prior to that 2009 win, the Flames had not won the opening game since 2001 and 1994 before that. That's only 3 wins in 25 Years worth of opening night games! You have to go back to the Stanley Cup contending teams of the 80s and early 90s where the opening night game wasn't pretty much a predetermined loss.

I knew it was bad not that horrid. That's why I'm fully expecting us to lose. I do however remember that game in 2001 against the Oilers I believe. A Big 1-0 win with Turek pitching the shutout.
That was the start of a 13-2-2 run to begin the season unfortunately we all know what happened shortly after that. Anywho Go Flames!
Without looking it up was that 1994 opening night win against the Islanders? I wanna say 4-3 win or somewhere along those lines.
I remember waiting patiently to watch the highlights on sports desk lol. Kids these days don't know the anguish of cheering for a hockey team while living in a different city pre Internet!
