i haven't had my car stolen but my last ride had at least three attempts, a previous owner had installed a switch under the seat that i believe disabled the starter relay without pressing it while you turn it over.
the last attempt they got a little desperate and tried the wrench trick, bridging battery to starter. they must have gotten a good spark because they set the car on fire, the main engine wiring harness burnt up. i didn't have fire insurance but trade-wise it wasn't a problem for me to rebuild.
my suspicions as to who that one was were pretty much confirmed when one of my neighbours was skulking around... serves me right for parking in prince george i suppose, one neighbour was a hooker and the guys upstairs were car thieves!
so all i can offer as advice is to put some kind of electrical disable into your next ride.
