I think this summer was fairly unique with the cap not going up as much as expected.

Guys are getting squeezed out with medium to small contracts because of it that would find nhl homes in other seasons where cap troubles weren’t as pressing.

Yes, some of these are promising young players trending towards bust status for various reasons. But there are nhl caliber players with medium sized contracts that have literally been squeezed out of the league because of the cap crunch this summer.
