The Flames don't have the space (lineup or cap-wise) to pick up forwards off waivers. Rieder likely starts on the opening day lineup, Dube is essentially NHL ready, and Czarnik needs some more playing time as well if we want him to develop at the NHL level.
Not surprised to see Quine go to Stockton, but I think he's shown enough that he should be the first forward called up. It was interesting to see him being interviewed by Ryan Leslie during the first intermission on Saturday night; I could tell they didn't really get into specifics about staying in Calgary and where he might play, and just talked generally about "starting the season".
