Has Janko really been coddled, though? He only played 12:42 per night last year and a lot of that came on the PK. Throughout all of that, he still scored 32 points in 79 games, and absolutely none of those points came on the powerplay.
Here's an interesting list of the Flames' players ranked by points, excluding powerplay points:
1. Gaudreau (72 points)
2. Monahan (59 points)
T3. Giordano (53 points)
T3. Tkachuk (53 points)
5. Lindholm (52 points)
6. Backlund (45 points)
7. Frolik (34 points)
8. Jankowski (32 points)
Jankowski outranked Ryan (31 points), Brodie (30 points), Hanifin (28 points), Bennett (21 points), and a whole whack of other people. But of everybody mentioned in this post, Jankowski played the least by quite a bit.
