Sealing them up seems like a pain in the ass. I noticed a reddit thread where someone 3D printed screens with a hole to mount Amazon echo dots, but it's a custom project.

It really depends on what type of wiring was brought to the intercoms and where they terminate.
The amount of options available is staggering now, I'm a big fan of speakers throughout the house, but zoned lighting control is another option.
