That is true for the Flames now that he has cleared.
If he had been claimed by another team, that would mean he didn't clear waivers. If he was claimed and the claiming team later wanted to send him to the AHL, they would need to put him on waivers before they could do so. In that situation, if the Flames were the only team to put in a claim, it would be as if he had cleared waivers the first time and the Flames could send him directly to the AHL.
