There are many reasons why could be sitting in her car doing paperwork. Maybe she completed a patrol and she has to write it up. Maybe she had an incident and she has to write it up. Most security guards don't wait until the end of shift to write up reports - they write them up as the shift happens. Even if nothing happens, they generally have to at least write "nothing to report" or along those lines at a very set time.

There could also be lots of reasons why she's sitting in her car. Maybe she's supposed to sit in her car. Some security companies make employees use their own car.

You have absolutely no knowledge of whether or not this is actually her job and just ran with the assumption that she was sleeping.

And you know what? Even if she was sleeping, that's still no reason for them act like drunken idiots. The fact that Matthews' body tried to get her to not report it later pretty much shows where he believed the fault lied and it wasn't with the guard. Otherwise they could have just gone to the condo company and said she was sleeping, or you know, raised that at any point since then, especially when charges were made.

The justifications are really quite pathetic. This doesn't make him a sexual predator but it does make him a colossal jerk, and the fact that he tried to hide it from his team even after he knew charges were coming, pretty much proves that.
I have no reason to make things up and attempt to justify Matthews. In situation, where pretty much everything is coming from one side, I am trying to figure out what has actually happened. The woman has at least lied when she said that the incident was on camera, while it actually was not, and only an aftermath is somewhat on camera. Usually, when you don't know what exactly has happened and are unsure how much you can trust the source of the story, it is common to figure out what makes sense. You do it based on common sense and your own life experience. Admittedly, my life experience does not include being a female nightguard nor a hockey star, but I have nothing better to rely on anyway. I also have no problem admitting that my take on the situation may be proven entirely wrong if some further evidence comes out. Nonetheless, this is how I see it.

1. She was either sleeping or at least not paying attention to what she was supposed to guard. She admitted as much, by saying she was startled.

2. Matthews saw it and decided to shake the door handle to wake her up or at least to make her alert. It just makes WAY more sense than believing that Matthews decided to harass her for fun. So I tend to side with this narrative for now.

3. This has led to an argument between the two. Maybe some words were too blunt.

4. The woman has realized her opportunity to go after big payout and went to cry foul as hard, as she can. I tend to not believe, that she did not recognize Matthews from the start. The guard is supposed to recognize the inhabitants of the condo she is guarding, isn't she? As such, I don't believe that she was all that scared.

The reason why I see the incident this way is because behavior of the parties makes most sense to me. I fully admit I can be way off.
