This doesn’t feel great to me. Point had 92 points and 41 goals in 79 games as a centre, and he got 3*6.75. Point may have a slightly higher after-tax income, and that may justify this I guess, but that just reminds me of the disadvantage the Flames face. So whether I look at this as a fair deal because of the tax situations in Alberta and Florida or an unfair deal because Point scores more and plays centre, I just can’t see this contract as a positive.
My really cynical side says he signs in St. Louis as a UFA after he accepts the QO in year 4. I have no reason to believe this though.
Anyways, it is sweet to have him in the lineup.
