The alternative would be enrolling his kids in a school where he intends to live once he’s retired if his intentions to stop playing hockey were not something he’s recently considering in the face of either playing hurt or rehabbing his injury.
It’s more indicative of his intentions, or state of mind, than selling a piece of property.
