Here's an English lesson for you: "even" is an adverb used to express surprise. In this instance it is being used to emphasize the significance of Giordano's decision to move permanently to Calgary by drawing a comparison to the greatest Flames player of all time. If I had thought poorly of Iginla, or begrudged him his desire to chase the dream of winning a Stanley Cup outside of Calgary, then this comparison would make no sense. Rather, because I think highly of Iginla already, it speaks very meaningfully to my regard for Giordano on the basis of this decision. In other words: Iginla's commitment to Calgary was incredible, which makes Giordano's appear even more impressive. It DOES NOT disparage Iginla in any way to point out that Giordano's relationship to the city is different.
