Well according to a previous report by Freidman (IIRC) that is not true as the Flames have acknowledged that MT would be paid more than Gio on this contract....and with the tidal shift league wide to who is getting the money moving forward, a no-brainer. If MT was told he would bnever see anything North of 6.75, he would have already requested a trade IMO.

The Matthews contract truly was a game changer. Now I suspect most RFA's coming of their ELC, see that path as the one to maximize their earnings while in the league. GM's are hesitant to give up years of control on the player as they figured they did just that in the least couple CBA's.

Its just a tug of war right now that hasnt truly seen any pressure points on either side that has forced deals to happen..in other words, players arent losing a dime yet and teams arent losing games yet.
