Yes, that is what I suggested.
I think it’s logical. Maybe not bulletproof, but worth discussing.
If the team is struggling up to Dec 1, then there may be a bit more pressure.
But the player sitting out a whole year is such a lose-lose that it has to be worth it to both sides to get something done near term, if they can’t be satisfied long term.
