Until the Chiefs find a combination of pass rush and defensive backs to support Mahomes to the point where he can put up 28 points and win a game, I don't think there is much he can do.
He lost 5 games last year where he lead the team to 40, 51, 28 and 31 and 31 points. 71 total points against New England to come out with an 0-2 record.
Going back to 2013 Brady has last 4 total games including playoffs in which he lead his team to 28 or more points with 33 being the highest total in a loss (Superbowl to the Eagles). Two other times he lost putting up 27 points.
Realisitcally the only thing in the AFC that has ever been a nuisance to the Patriots has been the Ravens under John Harbaugh or the one time Peyton Manning lead that comeback against him, plus the two other times he had an elite defence backing him in Denver, and paniced Emperor Bellichick into forgetting that field goals could have helped him win the game.
