Mangiapane's role with Calgary would have been in trouble had he sat out much longer as there are plenty of bottom-six forwards available. "I don’t think me missing time was a good thing," Mangiapane admitted. "I wanted to be back, I wanted to be on the ice and gearing things up for the season. That was the most important factor in me signing. My agent, and all that, I just think it was a good time to start training camp. No one wants to miss training camp and being away from the guys and seeing everything that was going on and everything like that. Me coming back and me training, I guess, proving myself and trying to have a good year — that starts with training camp." He had eight goals and 13 points last season. A slight bump in stats is in order but he has no fantasy value.
