How does Brayden Point ask for more money than Nikita Kucherov and Steven Stamkos? Kucherov is the reigning MVP and he just extended for $9.5 as a pending UFA. Stamkos has multiple trips to the conference finals. He's been to the finals. He's won the Rocket Richard. He's scored 60 goals. He's scored 50 multiple times.
That guy got $8.5 24 hours before he hit the open market.
Brayden Point has had a good start to his career. That's all. There's no reason for the teams to cave to these guys - the rest of the league has recognized that McDavid and Matthews took advantage of bad negotiators. If the players want to hold out, that's their business. But they aren't being offered anything unfair, so they won't be able to hold out for long.
