“Best it’s ever been” was tongue-in-cheek, because at the end of the day it’s the anthem before a hockey game, not a Celine Dion concert.

We don’t need a “powerful” singer, and going as far ranking Calgary singers or pining for the singer from the 80s is just silly to me. Make it a star... or a nobody... or a local Calgary musician... or... whatever. George was great. Heather was great. Basically anybody who knows the words, can sing, and doesn’t drag it out like everyone is there to see them is “great.” The same can’t be said for many other anthem singers around the league.

The anthem singer is about as crucial as that guy who asks trivia questions during the breaks, and has about equal impact on getting the crowd “into it.” The faster you get to the part where we all cheer and put our hats back on, the better.
