Tkachuk wants the shorter term, but also doesn't want the lesser money that customarily goes with that.
If he would sign a 1-year deal for $5-6MM, it would be done already.
He wants term to UFA and the big bucks, just like Matthews got, Aho got, and all the other RFA's are looking for.
