I haven't really had too much of an issue with Montoyo, but what he did with one of the Jays most valuable assets/trade chips this year is almost unforgivable.
Up until Jul 2nd Giles had pitched 30 innings, with 52 strike outs and 1.20 ERA. He was an utterly dominant closer with a season and a half of control left.
Then Montoyo put him in on July 3 for a 3rd straight game against the Red Sox, and since then he's been on and off the IL, pitched only 7 innings with a 5.14 ERA.
He totally blew up the guys arm right at a point when his trade value was about to be realized and I'd like to know why. What was so important about that game for Montoyo to feel he had to use Giles again? Thinking maybe the Jays were about to go on a run and get back into the playoff race? (green text not needed).
What an idiot. The reward was no where near worth the level of risk, and once again the Jays have a valuable trade chip get tossed into the trash can. I'll be shocked if Giles ever again has the value he had as of July 2nd.
