Then on December 29th it looks like he was a healthy scratch, but given it was a week after missing a month not a stretch that he was having trouble working his way back in.

Two games. And none in the new year.

Exaggerated by fans or agent? Because if the agent doesn’t make those comments, I don’t think most fans think twice about those two scratches at the end of the year.
I agree it shouldn’t have been a big deal. Sure at the time it felt like perhaps Neal was more deserving of having a popcorn game, but those decisions blow over by the end of the season. Even Johnny and Monahan were scratched a few years ago and people weren’t up in arms about it at the end of the season. If their agents made a stink about it though, it would have been a different story.
