Can anyone explain the urgency to sign the deal immediately? I understand that waiting for council to resume in September seems long, but in the context of this decade-plus saga it's hardly any time at all...also, it's not like council's calendar was decided yesterday - the parties could/should have been negotiating to a hard deadline of getting the initial release out last week (ie. the week after Stampede).
What would be lost by this extra little delay? It's not like they are planning for shovels in the ground next spring...
I wonder if one of Stampede's conditions is a 23 month main construction phase? The logistics of moving materials and equipment doesn't mix well with the pedestrian, equine, and vehicle traffic during 10 day Stampede...though I'm sure they could schedule accordingly to avoid construction traffic for that period
