I agree. For goalies, I think you really need to do it more than once to deserve a long term lucrative contract. There are too many flashes in the pan.
It's arguably the most important position for a team to invest in, but also the most risky to invest in the wrong person. You have to be careful. It's not like overpaying a defenseman or forward where you can play them down the line-up and not get weighed down too badly.
There is a huge opportunity cost associated with locking yourself up with a goalie long term if it doesn't work out.
