If that was the starting point for negotiations from Ferkland's camp, then I don't blame them for telling him to go pound sand.
That was not a realistic strarting point for good faith negotiations. If he came with that number, Carolina would have had to counter with a $1 miilion AAV just to hope to land somewhere in the middle by the end of it. Which is where the market dictated he belongs.
It's easy to see why they couldn't negotiate with Ferkland. Not to dismiss the the entire point you made, but I can't blame them here. Assuming the information is true.
