Im building a Pergola on our back deck. Im bound a determined not to dig holes by hand because I hate digging holes.
Running the numbers of auger rental vs sonotubes vs 16ft 6x6 posts (2 ft deck, 8 ft pergola, 4ft underground) I just decided to say screw it and go for the commercial pylex at 75 bucks a pop. They provide more lateral stability and are adjustable as well. We want to hang a swinging bench from the pergola so we needed a bit more structural considerations.
The piles just arrived yesterday so Im interested to see how it goes.
