The problem will be the term. Tkachuk wants a term that takes him right to UFA. Treliving wants either a longer term or a shorter term with less AAV.
An offer sheet with the UFA term at, say $8.5M, is not in Calgary’s best interests, as it gives Tkachuk the term and the AAV. The Matthews contract. It’s what Marner wants.
Make no mistake, Carolina matched, but this is no where close to the contract they wanted , mostly because of the term..
