So many interpretations on what small market is.
Small market Flames means that the Flames have a small amount of potential fans near by. Nothing to do with budgets or canada/usa.
Buffalo is not small market as many suggest. They are low payroll, but they are in a large market.
Vancouver is not small market. They have the entire pacific Canada and NW USA for fan base. Nothing else around.
Calgary and Edmonton are small markets. Small cities with not much around, Red Deer and Lethbridge are smaller than some neighbourhoods in NE US.
Toronto and Montreal are large markets.
Even Colorado is a "small-ish" market. They are bigger than Calgary, but not by much.
Are large markets more desirable? You would have to think so because of Jersey sales. But not sure how much players care about that part.
