I’m also thinking that it may NEVER have gotten to a point where Kadri was asked to waive for Calgary. Looking at the Colorado package, I have a hard time thinking the Flames were offering quite that good of a package. I think the 50% retention on Barrie was key for the Leafs.
It seems reasonable to me to assume Colorado jumped in with a better offer that the flames couldn’t or wouldn’t match, before the ask if Kadri was even necessary. This could explain the confusion about the waive/no waive of the NTC to Calgary with the media.
Either way, I’m pretty happy that we didn’t cough up that price for Kadri. We should be able to move to another target with the Brodie currency (it Kreider or some other comparable winger)
