I don't agree that brannstrom was a more valuable piece than Valimaki. I actually think Calgary had the significantly more valuable asset components in their offer but it meant Ottawa also taking Neal and Ottawa is probably the worst team to deal with in the whole league when it comes to taking back real actual dollars, so the deal couldn't go down.

There is virtually no evidence to suggest that Neal was ever part of a trade offer with Ottawa.

Trading him in December 2018 sure as hell does, but it doesn’t really matter considering that he has not yet been moved or bought out. I expect Neal will finish the 2020 season on the Flames roster.
