I say this as a former goalie whose physique can charitably be called 'slim but doughy', but athleticism is probably the least important element of that position. 
 
Marty Brodeur and Patrick Roy were fat when they played.  Kipper would burn heaters whenever he wasn't on skates. Curtis Joseph has never not looked like my dad. 
 
The best goalies are made of rubber and they see the game at a genius level.
