Really curious what this trade ends up looking like. In theory, a former 4th overall, still young prospect should intrigue teams, but how many teams would okay with being worse short term to potentially win the trade in the medium – long term?
Normally I’d say a change of scenery prospect swap would be the smartest move, but the Oilers seem particularly desperate to prove to ole McDavid they are a winner. They are likely going to prefer an established NHL player on a below market contract, ideally with a bit of term.
These are my guesses. These players are still relatively young and established players.
Leafs: Connor Brown. 1 year. $2.1 million. RFA. 29 points.
Sens: Jean Gabriel Pageau: 1 year. $3.1 million. UFA 30 points (prorated)
Hurricanes: Jordan Martinook. 2 years, $2 million AAV. UFA. 25 points.
