The biggest problem is that GM's can't seem to learn you shouldn't pay more than $1.5 million for anyone on the bottom 6 or bottom D pairing.

The problem is that with these long term deals players like JVR and Hayes will be 3rd/4th line players on the back ends of their deals and the deals don't shrink to $1.5 million when these players are in their 30's so you are paying $6+ million for players that are no longer in your top 6. The issue with these deals really isn't money and it's the term.
