This kind of reminds me of when the Flames acquired Chris Butler as part of the package for Robyn Regehr. Butler had 21 points in 59 games as a 22 year old (a year before being traded). Pionk just had 26 points in 73 games.
Just because a player is young and gets playing time, doesn't mean they're actually good.
I don't know much about Pionk, but I assume he's better than Butler was.
The Trouba situation was always kind of messy, so I'm not surprised that the Jets failed to maximize his value. At least they did get something pretty decent out of it. The first round pick is nice.
It seems like the Jets might be worse next season, unless their goaltending rebounds.
