So, I think NYR wins this trade too. But when you take into account the context - the fact that Trouba wanted out, and Winnipeg wants to be able to draft in the first round this year - I think people are overselling the one-sidedness of this. If there was a trade that Chevy should regret, it's the Hayes trade, not this one. I think the problem is that people are underrating Pionk. This is one of my favourite goals of the year.
Here's another beaut.
Pionk can skate, he has really good vision, and he has a heck of a slapshot. He's the type of player you hope you end up with around the 15-20 overall mark. More importantly, though, he's ready. This is sort of like getting two mid firsts for Trouba, except that Pionk has greater value than a mid first because you don't have to wait for him to develop. The tradeoff is that you don't get him cheap during the ELC period. Winnipeg will take that tradeoff all day, especially since he's probably not going to make a huge amount on this contract.
So, yeah, Trouba's worth more, but I still don't mind this considering the situation the Jets were in.
