I own a refurbished iPod nano and it's perfect. I think what refurbished means is that there was a minor problem with the item it was fixed, went through tests and because it had a problem can no longer be sold as a brand new item, so they sell it as refurbished. When you purchase refurbished items from Apple they give you a guarantee that the product will work, look for that when you purchase anything that is refurbished.
